Medicated Enema Therapy — the Principal Classical Therapy for Vata
Basti
Basti is the administration of medicated decoctions or oils through the rectal route, and classical texts regard it as the most important therapy for Vata-related disorders — which include many joint, spine and nerve-related complaints.
Basti is given as a planned course rather than a single sitting: schedules alternate oil-based (anuvasana) and decoction-based (niruha) enemas in sequences decided by the physician. At Vasudev Ayurveda it is frequently considered in the care of back pain, joint stiffness and similar musculoskeletal concerns, following assessment.
What a Basti course involves
Physician-decided sequence of oil and decoction enemas
Local oleation and fomentation before each sitting
Administration by trained therapists with full attention to comfort and hygiene
Diet and routine guidance through the course
The composition, number of sittings and schedule are fixed only after consultation, and the course is reviewed as your response becomes clear.
