Kerala-Style Fomentation with Warm Medicated Leaf Boluses
Patra Pottali Swedana (Kerala Therapy)
Patra Pottali Swedana — often called Kerala Therapy — is a fomentation in which fresh medicated leaves, fried with herbal ingredients, are tied into boluses (pottalis), warmed in medicated oil and applied rhythmically over the body.
It is traditionally used for joint and muscle stiffness, and at Vasudev Ayurveda it is frequently considered within musculoskeletal care plans — for complaints such as back, neck and knee stiffness — following assessment.
What a session involves
Freshly prepared medicated leaf boluses, warmed in oil
Rhythmic application over the planned areas of the body
Steady warmth maintained by the therapist throughout
Rest and simple after-care advice following the session
Areas treated, session length and the course duration are decided at consultation and reviewed as you respond.
